ENEO Energy Solutions

ENEO forms part of the Zaptronix core energy demand offering and focuses on protection of electricity demand systems for medium to large power users.  Zaptronix is a registered ESCo (Energy Services Company) and participant in the Demand Side Management (DSM) programme in South Africa.  Our energy management solutions also provide facilities for the reading, logging and profiling of electricity.  The data obtained from these can then be used to analyse trends and produce annual consumption forecasts. Energy efficiency at our customers is promoted through well laid out procedures and methods to ensure continual improvement.

LOAD MANAGEMENT SOLUTION FOR RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENTS

Electrical energy is a form of energy that cannot be stored.  It must be generated, shipped to the point where it is needed, and immediately consumed. Sometimes the load on a system can approach the maximum generating or distribution capacity. When this happens, one must either find additional supplies of energy or find ways to curtail the load. If you are unsuccessful within the time allowed, the system will become unstable and blackouts can occur.  ENEO has engineered an intelligent load management system that considers individual usage patterns within a collective in order to apply pre-emptive measures which stops blackouts from occurring. Our independent certification provides assurance and security in these specific instances.  The solution is installed on site with limited renovations to existing infrastructure and is backed up by a maintenance agreement and our 24/7/365 contact centre.

Our solutions work optimally in the following scenarios:

  • Where planners or construction companies seek approval or are waiting for approval from a municipality to allocate sufficient energy supply in order to go ahead with a new development e.g. a townhouse complex or retirement village.
    • Given the current constraints South Africa is facing around its energy supply, developers are forced to apply for less energy and have to prove that the demand will be sustained below this threshold.  By implementing various load management and energy saving mechanisms, Zaptronix is able to reduce the demand of the collective, ensuring that consumption is maintained below the threshold which will positively impact on the approval process.
    • As approvals can be granted sooner, months of delays and associated costs can be avoided as the development can go ahead with minor changes caused by applying effective energy management mechanisms.
  • An established lifestyle estate or multi-home development where houses built exceeds the original specification and the infrastructure is inadequate to cope as originally anticipated by the developer.
    • Developers usually make provision for certain standard features in estimating the electricity demands of a development.    Cabling, CTs etc. are installed accordingly, yet as time goes by and more units are built, the supply as specified is often insufficient.  This situation is aggravated if owners subdivide stands or install multiple geysers, under floor heating etc.
    • The overloading (especially during winter) can cause a total blackout during certain peak periods (See Radcliff case study).
    • The prohibitive costs and effort associated with infrastructure upgrades can be avoided by opting for ENEO Load Shedding™.

ENEO Load Shedding™ utilises sophisticated load analysis in which models are built to describe the physical properties of the distribution network (i.e. topology, ampacity, and other characteristics of the lines), as well as the load behaviour. The analysis may include scenarios that account for weather forecasts, the predicted impact of proposed load-shed commands, estimated time-to-repair for off-line equipment, and other factors.  Accurate ‘before’ and ‘after’ comparisons track consumption and facilitate savings.  The 24/7/365 Bureau serves as the control room after implementation to ensure stability of the network and service offering.  As regular health checks are carried out on the networks and installations, residents are totally undisturbed by the processes running behind the scenes.  The solution can also be integrated with panic alarm systems and smart village networks.

AUTOMATED METER READING AND UTILITY SERVICES

Eneo Utility™ allows electricity / energy demand and consumption to be logged, read and profiled automatically to suite the energy management model of the landlord or large power user for a number of sites.   Automated meter reading, or AMR, is the technology of automatically collecting data from energy metering devices and transferring that data to a central database for billing and/or analyzing purposes.

In the case of estimates, billing can be based on actual consumption rather than on an estimate as per previous consumption, giving customers better control of their use of electric energy.  Zaptronix combines the best in class electronic metering devices and billing approaches to provide metering solutions that are maintenance free, accurate and easy to use with extensive reports.  The technology removes the need for occasional manual reads by technicians, thereby saving costs associated with travel and salaries, improving accuracy, reducing processing time and simplifying the billing process.  It is also a safety consideration as AMR based meter reading usually eliminates the need for the meter reader to enter the property or home.   Sub-billing for tenants or a site is also simplified and ensures timeous recoveries.
ENEO provides Eneo Utility™ as a service to ESCOs, landlords, body corporates, residents associations or plant managers in terms of three options i.e. CORE, CORE Plus and PREMIUM.

CORE

Eneo Utility™ utilises a power metering system installed on site to send readings and events to the data centre via GSM and other networks.   Data is stored for up to 5 years and standard reports are published for the customer to access via a Web interface.

CORE Plus

The CORE PLUS offering includes all the CORE functionality as specified with the following added features:

  • Bill verification
  • Customer relationship manager support
  • Source of supply metering
PREMIUM

Sub-billing is added to the Eneo Utility™ CORE PLUS offering.  As the PREMIUM option extends beyond a business to business solution to residents or tenants, a 24/7/365 contact centre deals with all enquiries. The Zaptronix smart meter range can be configured to provide multiple residents or tenants with real time information.  Various graphs and management reports are available to landlords or large power users online.  The information is used for bill verification purposes, electricity demand shifting to off-peak (cheaper) periods, trend analysis and to improve overall energy efficiency by managing consumption.

Take full advantage of the Zaptronix AMR benefits and gain active control over your energy consumption.
